The WDX I picked up has an A frame set up made from 4x6 "c" channel and a fair amount of cross braces. I believe my chassis was broken in two places from lifting too large of a load. Possibly entire cars! The 1/2 ton PW that the previous owner had had a similar set up and the frame was split clean in two. It was held together by only a piece of strap tacked on. The moral of this story is that no matter how strong and well braced your A frame is there are plenty of other parts to fail by over doing it. By the way I am still looking for a replacement frame if anyone knows where one is.
