This is how I understand powder coating. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong. The piece is first cleaned down to bare metal. Then an electrode is connected to the metal. The spray gun uses powder with an opposite charge so that the powder is "attracted" to the metal. After the powder has formed a coating, it is placed in an oven at aprox 450 degrees F until the powder melts together forming a uniform coating. Depending on your part, it could take a rather large oven. From what I have heard, it can be expensive if you take one part at time for this process. The fumes are lethel, so it is not recommended for home ovens. I have heard of people with a oven in the back yard used for powder coating small parts. Many chrome shops also do powder coating. My two cents.
