I would buy a good 110 powered MIG welder by Lincoln or Miller. The gas option allows alot of flexibility but I imagine you will only need to use the Fluxcore wire anyway. Using 110 powered welders are extremely useful and can handle up to 3/16" steel easily. I built a very good quality rack for my truck with nothing but a grinder and a Miller 130. You can buy these new for $500 or possibly find them used. another option is to buy it new then sell it after you have done all the welding you need as they retain a good resale value if in good shape. I would avoid buying a stick, you don't have nearly the flexibility and control.
Good Luck!
