If I understand correctly,why couldn't you use more than one battery without a reducer? I mean there are two ways to connect more than one battery. These are series parallel and parallel series(if I've named them correctly?) One connects - to + in series to obtain a higher voltage as in your radios and flashlights. The other connects all the +'s together and the -'s together in series parallel to keep the same voltage but increase the amperage which is is what I believe you need.If I'm wrong,I'm sorry.
