I've used Felpro Rust Convertor on my Landcruiser: frame(with body off) and a few body patches. It looks like Pepto-Bismol; in fact it does have barium sulfate in it. I use a high pressure hot water cleaner on the metal and then use a wire wheel on an angle grinder to remove looser scale. Then paint the stuff on, several coats, drying >24hrs between layers. It makes a hard stable surface to spray paint. So far after several years in this adverse climate (Anchorage, Alaska - they use some road salt, not as much as some other places) it seems stable.
