The one I'm doing now had a piece of diamond plate welded over the wood floor. It took considerable cutting just to get the plate out. The sides were bowed from years of abuse but I managed to straighten them. I milled my own floor from oak I bought from my cousin. A router is the ticket for the rabbets on the top edge. I had used a piece of cedar for a template to set the bed angles and hold the side straight. I painted this bed floor with a special Sherwin Williams paint in black. Bent pieces definitely make a lot of extra work. Hope the rest goes better for you.
