Actually that's a pretty smart move.
Fiat has a lot of good, solid diesel technology, and no other manufacturer is putting a diesel in a half ton pickup.
Since Ford now has a very popular V6 in their half ton pickups, it makes sense for someone to add an oil burner for those who want the torque and mileage of a diesel without going with a V6 gas engine. A Cummins diesel is too much engine for a half ton, but a smaller diesel would fill that niche quite well.
Spill it over as an option for Jeeps and you'll have an even bigger hit on your hands.
