But hey, is it the shocks that cause the frames to crack, right near the crossmember? My other truck had a crack in front of that crossmember, this one has a weld just behind on one side. I've alwasy thought it was a result of many twists of the frame, now I wonder about those humoungous shocks.
I'm replacing that crossmember, and adding gussets top and bottom. Gussets will be 16" long at outer edge of frame, to bridge the cracky places, and double up some pitted areas. Sawn from 6" wide 3/16", will extend inwards 6". Gussets will be welded, but no across the frame. Rivets will be replaced with grade 5 bolts.
And I think I'll hole saw some drain holes through gussets and crossmember.
