The content of fuel does vary by region. CA and 4 other states, use a higher ethanol content and additives to reduce certain "pollutants". Those fuels do have a considerably shorter shelf life that states that have different blends, however in no case is there any longer "6 month fuel life".
Fuel life and fuel storage life is considerably shorter than before 2008. It's a fact.
The new fuels are also more hydroscopic, and will absorb moisture out of the air in damp climates.
I've given the warning in an attempt to keep folks from harm. Store fuel at your own risk... ; )
