Tim, the inside of the housing on my 58 is painted that dark red paint to make the oil flow back quicker, but only just in the diff area, not the axle tubes. we used to paint the inside of our race engines with electrical insulation paint to flow the oil back to the crank case quicker, oil will bead up on it like water does on wax!!
