Hi Norm,
No on the socks, Smartwool with thin synthetic liner socks are my standard wear. I have put about 500 miles on the boots, using the 2 sock system, never so much as a hot spot, until now!
I am going to try replacing the insoles, after that I guess I will declare the boots unfit for service. They dont appear worn out, but maybe something inside has broken down.
