I bought a Corn Pro brand gooseneck after getting advice from Paul in New York. It is very heavily built, and also has Dexter axles.
As to gooseneck vs. bumper, I would suggest you try driving a gooseneck trailer.
I have a Ram 3/4 ton CTD truck, and I was really amazed at how nicely a gooseneck tracks down the road, with no perceptible sway or fishtail tendency. I have always had bumper pulls before and this is my first gooseneck trailer. I'm very satisfied.
