I'm sorry. The bracket I took off was actually the right rear spring bracket that the shackle hangs from on my 1948 FFPW. Not a 1954 FFPW like I said. Not sure if it makes a difference.
I would think it's always best to cut off the factory rivet head and drive the rivet toward the clinched side. Then if there's a difference in hole sizes (like there was on my '48) the rivet will be going in the right direction.
