My tailgate had a dent about 3/4" deep that looked like someone dropped a 4" pc of steel pipe on it. I took an 1 1/4" steel bar about 2' long and cut about a 4" long taper on one end and ground off the sharp edges and drove it through the square tube. I straightened it out pretty good.
