I'm running a slant six dist in my 230, with a chrome plated 'brain'. I believe it to be some kind of Multiple Spark Discharge box because if I turn the dist slow enough, and stop when it sparks, it sparks continuously. Like a bug zapper. So I figure it is some kind of high out-put system. And it only uses one side of the ballast.
Otherwise, perhaps replacing the double ballast with two singles would let them run cooler? last longer? Though auto parts might not match, may need to try Radio Shack? I think the two sides are 1 ohm and 5 ohms? Or maybe 5 ohms and 16 ohms? Plus high wattage ceramic resistors are not cheap.
