I can't imagine any spark advantage from a magneto that you couldn't get with a good electronic ignition system. The main reason for using them in the old days on tractors, welders, pumps, generators, and the like is that you don't need a battery, if you're willing to hand-crank the thing to start it. Old magnetos have a habit of gradually losing their magnetism over time, so that's another thing to consider. I agree that it would be interesting, but it's not a project that appeals to me.
