For what its worth, I make small magnetos for model engines. The real forte of magnetos is the ability to run without a battery and they produce a better, hotter spark at high rpms. That's why the racers like them. On a flathead 6 I do not think you would be in the rpm range that would make a magneto a better option than the standard coil ignition.
