Dozerman, the bearing retainers on the 1/2 ton T-case are a little weak. Espesially the ones that also hold the seals. If the case had been taken apart by someone else to replace a seal or bearing chances are they did not shim it properly when reassembled. If the retainers have to few shims they will deform when tightened down. It is a slippery slope because when filled with oil the case leaks right away and then the mechanic tightens them even more. I usually remove them, check them for flatness and then reassemble according to the manual.
