Sorry to hear your sore on Chrysler but…. some vendor makes that part for them. Most assuredly that vendor makes parts with identical materials for GM, Ford, Toyota & any other major consumer of water pumps. The complex design of plastic impellers enable them to move more water with greater efficiency than a simple old bent blade metal impeller. The plastic material is also more resistant to high speed cavitation than most steel designs. It is a shame that the replacement pump was destroyed by the originals impeller fragments, an obvious oversight by the tech who was busting his hump to earn a few pennies. The dealers’ service department should have eaten the repair bill for that without a big fight.
