Handy as all hell and absolutely annoying till you get used to the system.
The cheap systems generally do NOT give a mirror view. Better systems have 2 camera capability.
The monitor will drive you nuts in the dark, so you want a monitor that comes on instantly.
Then there is the Smokey factor. I've actually been written by one ballbearing meter maid for having a TV on my dashboard. DOH, it don't have a tuner and is connected to 2 cameras on the back of the utility body because the body blocks the rear window of the cab. It was a fun evening with the Judge.
Adjustable camera mounts are real nice backing up to a trailer too.
You can get a good quality unit from Supercircuits.com for under $100- The crap from Harbor FRIGHT ain't worth the packaging.
