... I have an unscientific opinion that the shock from the inelastic chain works better at breaking the tap root -- of course it also potentially breaks the truck better, the pintel hook isn't indestructable.
Tow straps are certainly much better for vehicle towing and recovery - very hard with a chain not to do damage.
