1/2 ton WC running board

Since I never had an all together truck I'm not sure how the rear fenders attach to the rear of the running board. Is there a space? or does the fender just bolt up without any rubber or spacers? Between the front fenders and the running board there is a space. I'm sure someone here would know the answer, thanks.
