Wheel Cylinder Quesstion

While rebuilding the rear brakes on my '48 FFPW, I noticed that the wheel cylinders use 5/16" bolts while the backing plates have 3/8" holes. Will this cause a problem with the wheel cylinder moving back and forth? Were the original wheel cylinders attached with 3/8 inch bolts?
