Thats kinda how I see things. The oils of today are much better then the old oils. Technology has come a long way in oils. Just how many miles are put on these old trucks every year.

Some old 60 year old truck wipes a cam or spins a bearing and we blame it on the low zinc in the oil. In reality its 60 years old and could possibly had a tough life working. 60 years of oil quality that is not even close to what it is today and the technology of the engine and its parts inside. We cant figure out why the old flathead doesnt run 200000 miles like our newer fuel injected computer controlled vehicle has done and we blame it on the low zinc.

When you break in a new engine you dont want the most slippery oil you can get. You need those rings to seat in on the cylinders. You need to use the cam lube that should come with the cam. Dont use is sparingly and coat the entire cam when you install and run the cam in and then change the oil.

Until someone does an actual test of 2 brand new flatheads both working the same with zinc in one engine and newer oil in the oil to really see if theres a % difference in the miles they get then its all just what ever you want to believe.

It seems like all the ZDDP web sites always have a link to some zinc snake oil additive.
