Tim and Chris, Bob has it right. ALL flat tappet cams, basically ANY cam that is not a roller cam, is at risk during break-in and indeed over it's entire lifetime, unless it has zinc or ZDDP added to the modern low zinc oils.
For the last three years ALL aftermarket cams have been shipped with warning labels voiding the warranty unless ZDDP or the cam company's break-in oil is used.
I've been using the break in oil AND the additive in all of my customers rebuilds.
So far so good (dang I shouldn't written that!)
