I have taught wood shop in a HS for over 30 years. Two years ago we replaced out old saw with one of these. Not because of an acccident, but hopefully to prevent a catastrophy. Neighboring school districts also did the same. We have not had the need for the saw brake yet. However, it is cheap insurance. The students respect all of the saws. I always remind them that they do not want to be the one to find out if it works. I like the peace of mind knowing that it is there. The saw has never mis-fired. We only use dry wood, so moisture is not a problem. I trust this saw so much that I am planning on replacing my saw at home with one of these. It is a lot cheaper to spend $4G than to loose a finger, not even counting the pain or handicap. Activating the cartrige is a $65 cost, and a $50 blade. Cheap. The blade also drops below the table faster that you can see if it is activated. I am sold on this technology.
I read that the designer is also trying to design a radial arm/miter saw that has this technology. I believe that more people get hurt on these than table saws, since there are many times more of these out there.
I have two close friend who are retired wood shop teachers. Both amputated part of fingers in school on table saws. This technology would have prevented both accidents.
