Brought my 2001 Doage Dakota Quad Cab to the shop today.
I knew I had an exhaust leak, happened a few weeks ago. Been gettin louder.
Had a slight howl in the rear end, Been gettin worse.
Shop calls me today:
BOTH exhaust manifolds are like "swiss cheese". He said Dodge knew there was a problem with usin thin material for the manifolds, so theres a replacement OEM, 300 bucks a piece, labor to put em in 300 bucks.
Gets to the rear end. Lifts it and rolls the wheels, whines. Sends it to a 4x4 place. The bearings are shot, due to metal shavings. Metal shavings are coming from the carrier. Reason the carrier is puttin metal shavings in the bearings is cuz the pin that holds the ring and pinyon in place is broken and gridin the bejesus outta the carrier. SO, ring and pinyon, carrier and ALL bearings, so far 1500 and counting.
So this Dakota has been a pretty *%#@ good truck. Its a 2001, I got 156,600 miles on it. Nothing has gone wrong til now. The most Ive done to it was brakes. Never needed anything else. Its been a really really good truck. Im very happy with it. So now I guess Im payin for 10 years of no problems at all.
Does this mean Ill get another 150,000 outta it???
Sure wish it was fire season, 3 grand is gonna hurt real bad right now.
