The best and fastest way I have found to remove rivits is to use a plasma cutter to shear off the head. If you do not have some skill with a plasma cutter, practice first as you do not want to gouge the base metal. Once the had is off grind smooth with a disk or flapper wheel and you will reveal the outline of the rivet. Next take the plasma citter and bore a hole through the center of the rivet. After cooling for a few minutes take a punch and heavy hammer and with one or two whacks the rivet is out. Fast and easy and saves your knuckles. Good luck!
