Jerry as said it is a good set up.
My WDX had a 8V battery and worked fine(came from Minnesota),but I changed it to 12 anyway and saved the Gen,Reg. if wanted to ever go back.
After you get it running again put a volt/ohm meter on the battery and see what your reading.
If your over 6V and close to 8 or 9 your good.
Remember it may have to charge a few minutes to bring the battery voltage up.
