PW Running Like Crap

I've run into yet another problem with my PW.It's a 75 W200 W/360.I finally got it running and thought I'd take it for a spin around the driveway.It ran like a champ at an idle but when i put it in gear it started running like crap and backfiring.After about 50ft it stalled and wouldn't start again.I tried again last night with the same result.Motor got real hot for only running for a short time.When it stalled it almost seemed like it was flooding out.I put new plugs in it and I'm going to put on new wires,cap,rotor and take the carb off and check it.I know the mixture is at least in the ballpark.Anyone got any ideas?Thanks.
