Easiest is probably Helitool 318. Next is...

The easiest conversion is probably the Helitool 318/360 kit that uses the original NO420 transmission. This is a good way to go if you have or will have a PTO winch on your M37.

The next is probably using the engine half of the helitool 318/360 kit, along with a short tailshaft 727 transmission. You'll need to figure out your own automatic crossmember, transfer case linkage bracket, and transmission to transfer case driveline.

The next is probably using a small block Chevy. No one makes a kit for it, but the motor mounts are surprising clean and simple. As much as I don't care for small block Chevys, I have to admit it is a clean install in an M37. Chris Davis used to have photos of his 318 and long tailshaft 727 conversion, as well as a buddy who put a 350 in his. I can't get the site to open up now.

I've seen other engines, such as Detroit 353's, Cummins, and a Slant Six, but no clear photos of how they did it.

With the extra speed a V-8 allows, you might want to consider a disc brake conversion on at least the front axle. Helitool offers kits for that as well.
