A few things I would check.
1. Ground wire to battery loose or corroded
(check both ends)
2. Battery bad
3. Loose or corroded battery connections
Sorry, but all of my ideas keep coming back to a battery or battery related wiring problem.
Did you slip a new battery in and try it?
