The major differences in the poly engine and the LA are the cylinder heads. The heads are wider (this eliminates the poor push rod angle in the LA) and the ports are layed out like a small block ford (intake, exhaust, intake, exhaust). This means that the camshaft is different. The pistons are different in that the valve reliefs are cut on the side of the piston due to the canted valves. The valves are shorter than the LA valves. The crankshafts are the same as well as the connecting rods, the rod and main bearings, cam bearings, and basically all the internals except the cam. The biggest problem with the swap (I see) is the overall width of the heads. The blocks are virtually identical poly(A) and LA. (I have heard that the poly blocks have a .110 taller deck) Weiend still makes a 4bbl intake for it and you can get schnieder to regrind your cam. Headers are available. The LA was basically a redesign of the cylinder heads. The wedge heads were cheaper and easier to produce that the poly heads. They were also much lighter than the polys. The bellhousing is the same as the early hemis or fairly close as is the LA. I was/am going to try to put a set of poly heads on a 360 block stroked to 400 inches. The only things that are holding me up are the taller deck(possibly) and the lack of big valves. I may have found some valves that will work. Hope this helps, Dan
