Pleased to hear that you are enjoying 'the new machine'. I've always admired enthusiasm.
My own first truck was a 1/2 ambulance. Bought it in 1973 - I was 16 yrs. old.
The trials of learning , the hard way, about the subtleties of driving in the mountains every day since then, has taught me a couple of things.
Besides common sense, a guy needs a good truck. He will quickly learn about gravity. He will probably even feel gravity one day as he slides sideways in deep snow. He will learn when to crawl and when to get a little momentum. But every thing he learns, will naturally be learned "the hard way"
That's the only way we know how to do it.
I've learned different ways to make a truck more capable in snow. A full set of chains is always good. A guy could use a rear locker too. What the hell, this is America, stick one in the front too !
Did you know that about a thousand pounds of logs or sand in the bed will make that truck go as good as it's going to get?
Pretty simple, I suppose it makes sense. Traction, weight, gravity and all that. A guy can drive through some amazing stuff, most of the time.
Which brings me to the most important thing about 4-wheel-drive trucks: THE BETTER THEY GO - THE WORSE THEY GET STUCK !

Don't forget to use your head, shovel, winch, whatever it takes.
Have a BLAST ! !
