in the dodge military ww2 era, the senders were 6v and in 12v commands a resistor was used on the gauge power side. if you are somehow using a 6v sender from an early truck and applying 12v to it, it wont work properly and will likely fry. there are 1 and 2 wire senders, 12v and six volt applications. i always bench test the gauge and sender together out of the truck. installing known quantities saves a lot of time.
