Drive it. Touch it. Love it! Don't leave it parked too long, especially outside.
It doesn't need paint-just the touch of your greasy hands and muddy boots. It won't disentigrate, unless you let it sit outside or in a moist environment.
For the underside, drive it through a field of tall grass or light brush. Just watch so you don't wind grass up around your driveshafts and wipe out the pinion seals. For a really crusty underside, hit a mud hole first. Let the grass wipe off the abrasive mud. It will be the most enjoyable "restoration" ever.
The one challenge we've yet to perfect is maintaining live, green lichens on rusty sheetmetal. It never fails, when we start driving a lichen-covered truck, the lichens, dry out, die, and turn orange.
