The true trac differental requires some resistance on the spinning wheel or it acts like a open differental. The clutch type can transfer up to about 80% torque to the wheel with traction and as far as maintence the clutch type posi units require very little maintence thats why most OEM posi units are clutch type , plus most owners of these type vehicles do not put many miles on them so they should never need maintenace .
