The PTO was designed to be a very strong unit. The majority of the wear is on the idler gear and shaft since it constantly turns with transmission. Even a used one will probably give you service for quit sometime. If you do go with a used one, take it completely apart and inspect parts for wear. You can buy all new gears with the exception of the idler gear for $25 bucks. VPW sells the shafts and bearing kits, so if you do the work yourself, you can rebuild it at a fairly reasonable price.
