It's a risk/reward relationship. Do we want to risk a damaged drum for what may or maynot be better braking?
If we knew we could just "cleanup" the drum a little without damaging it, more people would opt to have the drums turned.
Sounds like more people are deciding not to risk having the drums damaged.
