1939 dodge speedometer

i found this inserted into a speedometer that was removed from a 1939 1/2 ton cab. the speedometer had been opened up before by somebody. i am assuming they modified this to fit it in. does anybody have any idea what the insert came out of? maybe a dodge car? i am stumped. dan m
