I say start simple and see where you feel like going next. Get started on the safety parts like brakes, then drive it a bit and see where it takes you. Whichever way you go, fixing up the body will be a good place to start. A few long drives and diving into the sheet metal might make a light go on.
These beasts have great character whichever way you go. Personally, I have a '43 that is slated to go onto a late model 25/3500 cummins powered frame with a couple of extra doors added to it.
The important thing is to have some fun with it.
