You can have normal thyroid levels and still be clinically hypothyroid. You may indeed have an underactive thyroid. However ther are a myriad of other possible problems, spanning from adrenal to emotional to psychologic. Very difficult to pin down.
You need to follow up on the tests. If your MD recommends a course of medicine it may fix the problem. It may be that there are different medicines that may work.
Be aware that sugar pills fix more than 30 of all medical problems.
Even though the most common treatments of hypothyroidism may have no effect, there are other older medicines that have dramatic benefits in certain people.
Hang in there and don't give up. One of our friends went through a very frustrating time until he responded to a non "modern" mainstream course of medication.
