i swear by the heatercraft units. i put one in my m37. i did the under dash one and piped 1/2 of it to the windshield to the defroster. no damper. i did install a cable operated hose valve to regulate water and accordingly temp flow. motor had three speeds. always enough heat and defrost. i think the need for a heat / defrost baffle is overblown if you have enough water and air flow.
