Loaded up the truck and headed to Beverly! Not really, tonight was the first time I drove the restored 48 PW. With the headlights on and no tailights at dusk I began the l-o-n-g 15 mile trek home in rush hour traffic. Needless to say the brakes needed a little getting used to.... and the look of fear from the woman at the gas station who cut me off looking at the front of the winch!
I managed to get the 48 only up to about 32 MPH in fear that the engine would blow if I went any faster - man is this geared LOW! When I looked at the speedometer I noticed the circular indicator had fallen off and was sitting in the base of the glass window.
Thank God I had the side mirror because it made it is easier to see the 20 vehicles that were traveling behind me. With the truck's engine roaring I looked up to see a Black Lab standing in the road - let's just say not quite rack and pinion steering but I did manage to avoid the ole girl!
All of you guys have been tremendously helpful --I apprciate the words of wisdom as I continue to dial this truck in!
