The jeepers swapping v8s in place of the I-6 are mostly simply falling in with the common "more is better" line of thought.
I had a 3/4 ton International Travelall with a 1bbl 258/T19/NP205/4.10 Dana 60. It was capable of pulling the Travelall down I-25 here in northern Colorado at traffic speed. A good engine in my opinion though it was out-matched by the TA as it didn't provide much of an advantage in mpg over a larger, more powerful v8 in the same vehicle.
