Keith, you almost got it right, the manifold is heated by the water. these engines run like crap with a cold manifold, quite unlike a hi-po v-8. it takes about 6or7 min. to start to run right, the warmer it gets the better it acts. the plate between the carbs is nothing more than a place to mount parts of the thottle linkage. I was in hurry to get it running and didn't do a very good job on it, I hope to get back on it soon and do it right. thanks for the intrest in the set up, it works well and pepped the little 230 up very nicely the manifold is a Tattersfield intake. they were an old,old speed equipment company, went belly up in 1954. the man I bought the exausts from said it was a rare piece. mine does not have anything broken or stripped, not even any hammer marks, so I guess I lucked out on that. Dave.
