I would strongly suspect that that sludge is a result of the additives is the actual anti freeze itself . heres my thought on anti freeze of late . used to be a engine was all cast steel/iron new stuff you find a variety of different compounds that make a engine ,die cast , plastics , aluminum ,and a host of other alloys ,even rubber hoses are now plastic synthetic base ,Even radiators are a mixed bag of materials . A friend of mine took some anti freeze from work (left over from engine change at the mine ) after the truck had a new engine replaced . he topped up his truck with the snti freeze left over anti freeze and the radiator came apart on his truck 400 bucks worth of apart . On my newer vehicles I buy my anti freeze from the original equipment dealer no exceptions ! Now the water you add to the anti freeze has something to do with sludge and we have very hard water here lime is a problem .On beater engines i have i add from the tap and i have oatmeal in the radiators flowing around in the system from time to time i believe thats a P H thing and scale build up as a result .I caution any one changing anti freeze to check the compatibility of the replacement fluid with the components that make up your engine and needs . Gone are the days of straight Etheline (sp) glycol ~ Copey
