I was interested in a good pair of Wellington style boots. I checked Hoffman's website. They dont' make them. I checked White's. They dont' make them. I went to Filson's online catalog, and sure enough they have a nice looking pair for around $300.00. I figured for that kind of money they would be a good choice, no doubt US made. Small print says "imported". This is the case with every boot on their page.
I don't mind paying good money for something of good quality. In 1973 I paid $65 for a Filson Double Mackinaw Cruiser jacket. Just about broke me, but I still have it. Today that jacket is 5 times that. I don't know if it's "imported" or not, I don't need another. I believe this is part of the reason the country is in such a mess. We all want the best for our money and yet we won't (or can't) hold out for locally made products, simply because of the cost. And the more available cheaper items are, the less buyers there will be for locally made. This is a cycle we all know about and we all complain about, but it seems like a bit of a terminal situation. Sorry about ranting.
