Down here the Piping Plover is a seashore bird that was on the endangered species. It nests along the beach above the high tide margins in nests that are invisible to the untrained. The eggs look like beach pebbles. The problem is that the nests/eggs are easily damaged by those not looking for the nests, and accidentally stepped on. As the beaches became more crowded the undisturbed areas dwindled and so the population plummeted. Now the nesting areas are protected once a nest is seen, and the locals/tourists resent the inconveniences.
However the population of the Piping Plover is surging back, and they may soon be taken off of the endangered species list again....yeah right.
