Thank you to everyone who tried to help with my earlier question regarding the master cylinder on my '72 W200. I finally got the chance to work on my problem again today and was able to eventually pull the brake push-rod out of the MC bore. It seems the main shaft of the push-rod is hitting the shoulder in the MC piston about 3/4" short of the rod bottoming out. I looked at NAPA's online catalog and you can see the rebuilt and new MCs have different piston bores where the push-rod goes, so may have to opt for the new MC at more than double the cost or try a unit from a competitor. As an option, could probably drill out the current MC bore, but hate to do that and probably void the warranty on the unit.
